" An Act for

the

by an Ac t of t he Governor in Counci l passed in t h e

or off any por t or ha rbour in New South Wales where in any pilot shall have been appointed for t h e purpose of en te r ing any of t h e said por ts or ha rbours shall deliver and give in charge such ship or vessel to the pilot who shall first board or go alongside of such ship or vessel in order to conduct t h e same in to por t and t h a t no mas te r or commander of any such ship or vessel shall proceed to sea from any of t he said por t s or ha rbours wi thou t receiving on board some pilot appointed as aforesaid to conduct t h e said ship or vessel to sea and t h a t if any ship or vessel shal l en te r any of t h e said por t s or ha rbour s or shall a t t emp t to proceed to sea without receiving on board thereof some pilot as aforesaid t he mas te r or person in command thereof shall forfeit and pay a fine equal in a m o u n t to such sum as the pi lotage of such ship or vessel according to t h e provisions of t h e said recited Act would have amounted to if a pilot h a d been received on board and whereas it is expedient t h a t ships and vessels t r ad ing between P o r t J a c k s o n and V a n Diemen ' s L a n d should be exempted

from t h e charge of pi lotage in Sydney under

i t therefore enacted by H i s Excel lency t h e Governor of N e w South Wales wi th t he advice of t he Legislat ive Council thereof Tha t from and after t he pass ing of th i s A c t all ships and vessels no t exceeding two h u n d r e d tons regis ter m e a s u r e m e n t trading regula r ly between P o r t J ackson and t h e Colony of V a n Diemen ' s Land shall while so

trading be tota l ly exempted from the dues of pi lotage in Sydney excepting in cases in which a pilot shal l be ac tua l ly requi red and

employed Provided always t h a t th is exempt ion shal l no t extend to any ships or vessels of a larger size t h a n two hundred tons regis ter measu remen t no r to any ships or vessels a r r iv ing a t V a n Diemen ' s L a n d from some other place and t h e n proceeding to New South Wales nor to ships or vessels proceeding from N e w South Wales t o Van
