Hairdressers Regulations 2003

under the Hairdressers Act 1988

1Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Hairdressers Regulations 2003.

2Commencement

These regulations come into operation on 1 September 2003.

3Interpretation
  1. (1)

    In these regulations—

Act means the Hairdressers Act 1988;

revoked regulations means the regulations revoked by the Schedule.

  1. (2)

    In these regulations, ANTA, ARC and certificate have the same respective meanings as in the Vocational Education, Employment and Training Act 1994.

4Prescribed qualifications

For the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of prescribed qualifications in section 4 of the Act, the following are declared to be prescribed qualifications:

  1. (a)

    a certificate evidencing the successful completion of the following units of competency forming part of the National Hairdressing Training Package (WRH00) endorsed by ANTA on 4 August 2000:

    1. (i)

      Maintain a safe, clean and efficient work environment (WRH01A);

    2. (ii)

      Remove chemicals from hair (WRH06A);

    3. (iii)

      Consult with clients and diagnose hair and scalp conditions (WRH09A);

    4. (iv)

      Treat hair and scalp (WRH10A);

    5. (v)

      Cut hair (WRH11A);

    6. (vi)

      Dress (style) hair (WRH12A);

    7. (vii)

      Perform permanent wave and chemical relaxation services (WRH13A);

    8. (viii)

      Colour hair (WRH14A); or

  2. (b)

    a certificate evidencing the successful completion of a course of training in hairdressing issued by an authority of another State or a Territory of the Commonwealth with which ARC has a reciprocal arrangement relating to the recognition of training qualifications; or

  3. (c)

    in the case of a person who, immediately before the commencement of these regulations, had qualifications declared by the revoked regulations to be prescribed qualifications—those qualifications.

Schedule 1—Revocation of Hairdressers Regulations 1988 (Gazette 15.12.1988 p 2033)

The Hairdressers Regulations 1988 (Gazette 15.12.1988 p2033) are revoked.
