W HEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Works that it was expedient to car ry out a certain work, namely, the construcAct, 1900, the Legislative Assembly did, by resolution, declare
the advice and consent of the Legislat ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of New South Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled, and by the au thor i ty of the same, as follows:—
1. This Act may be cited as the " Grafton to Casino Rai lway
Act, 1900."
2. The ca r ry ing out the said work (more par t icular ly described in the Schedule to this Act) is hereby sanct ioned; and the Secre ta ry for Public Works , or the Member of the Executive Council for the t ime being performing the duties of the said Secretary, is hereby authorised to under take and car ry out the said work, subject to the provisions of this Act, and for tha t purpose shall be, and shall have the powers and duties of, a Construct ing Author i ty within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1900.
3. The Governor shall, within three months after the commence ment of this Act by proclamat ion in the Gazette, declare the distr ict which in his opinion will be benefited by the said work, and thereupon in the year immediately succeeding the year in which the said work is completed and the line of ra i lway opened for traffic, and in every succeed ing yea r up to and including the year immediately succeeding tha t in which the amount of the receipts from the said line of ra i lway equals or exceeds the amount of the working expenses, together with the amount of the in teres t payable on the cost of construction but no longer, there shall be paid and t rans fe r red to the Rai lway Commissioners of New South Wales by the Colonial T r e a s u r e r from the revenue derived from lands within the said distr ict under lease from the Crown, such sum as represents the difference between the amount of the actual receipts from the said line of rai lway dur ing the previous year and the amount of the working expenses of the said line for tha t year, together with the amount of the interest payable for tha t year on the cost of construction.
4. The plan of the said work is the plan marked " Grafton to Casino R a i l w a y , " signed by the Secre tary for Public Works , and countersigned by the Engineer-in-Chief for Rai lway construction, and deposited in the public office of the said Secre tary .

S C H E D U L E .
This line begins a t the west side of Turf-s t reet , between I rene and Pound s t reets in the city of Grafton, and follows the no r th b a n k of the Clarence R ive r for about six miles, from whence t he bear ing is general ly n o r t h to t he R ichmond Range , which is crossed on the twen ty -n in th mile. The direct ion then becomes more westerly, following the eastern side of t he main road from Grafton to Casino, and crossing i t about forty- two miles, the same direct ion being main ta ined to close to t he junct ion of Mongogerie and Deep Creek, where t h e l a t t e r is crossed ; from here t he l ine is more or less direct to the crossing of the R ichmond River , a t about s ix ty- three and a half miles ; thence i t is north-easter ly and easterly to the no r the rn side of t he township of Casino, where i t ends a t the western side of West -s t ree t , and a t the beginning of the author ised Casino to Lismore ra i lway,—being a total length of sixty-four miles and twen ty chains, and subject to such deviation's and modifications as may bs considered desirable by the Const ruc t ing Au tho r i t y .
