 These Regulations may be cited as the Governor-General Regulations.

2Interpretation

 In these Regulations, unless the contrary intention appears:

Quarter means a period of 3 months commencing on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October.

the Act means the Governor-General Act 1974.

3Allowances – Official Secretary
  • (1)

    For the purposes of subsection 8 (2) of the Act, the following allowances are prescribed, namely:

    • (a)

      the clothing establishment allowance referred to in subregulation 4 (1) or (2);

    • (b)

      the clothing maintenance allowance referred to in subregulation 4 (3); and

    • (c)

      the allowances payable to a Level 4 officer in the Senior Executive Service of the Australian Public Service.

  • (2)

    The allowances referred to in paragraphs (1) (a) and (b) apply in respect of the Official Secretary:

    • (a)

      with effect from and including 22 April 1987; and

    • (b)

      as if the person who was Official Secretary on 22 April 1987 was appointed as Official Secretary on that day.

4Clothing allowance
  • (1)

    The clothing establishment allowance payable to the Official Secretary in respect of the period of 12 months commencing on 22 April 1987 is:

    • (a)

      in respect of a single male person — $1,100;

    • (b)

      in respect of a male person who has a spouse — $2,800;

    • (c)

      in respect of a single female person — $2,600; and

    • (d)

      in respect of a female person who has a spouse — $3,315.

  • (2)

    The clothing establishment allowance payable to a person appointed as Official Secretary after 22 April 1987, in respect of the period of 12 months commencing on the day of his or her appointment, is an amount calculated in accordance with the formula:

    where:

    A is the amount that would have been payable to that person if that person had been appointed as Official Secretary on 22 April 1987 in respect of the period of 12 months commencing on that day.

    N is the Consumer Price Index number in respect of clothing for Canberra published by the Australian Statistician in respect of the quarter immediately preceding the quarter during which that person was so appointed as Official Secretary.

  • (3)

    The clothing maintenance allowance payable to the Official Secretary in respect of a period of 12 months commencing on an anniversary of the day on which he or she was appointed as Official Secretary is 75% of the amount that would have been payable to that person if that person had been appointed as Official Secretary on that anniversary.
