1 . (] ) This Act mav he cited as the "Government Railways (Supply of Electricity) Act, 1922."
(2) In this Act the expression '• the Principal

52A. (1) The Commissioners may genera te and
supply electr ici ty for any purpose , and may en te r
into all such cont rac t s for such supply in such

m a n n e r and upon such t e rms and condit ions as

they m a y t h i n k proper .

(2) T h e Commissioners shall no t supply electr ici ty wi th in t h e City of Sydney, or any area as defined in t he Local Gove rnmen t Act , 1919, wi thou t t h e consent of t he council of t he said city or area (which consent t h e council is hereby

empowered to g i v e ) :

Provided t h a t as regards supply to works , bui ld ings , or indus t r ia l unde r t ak ings the p roper ty

of t h e Crown or of any s t a tu to ry body represen t ing

t h e Crown s i tua te or in operat ion wi th in any such ci ty or area, t he consent of' t he council shall no t be necessa ry :

Provided also t h a t no council wh ich has entered into an ag reemen t w i th t h e Munic ipa l Counci l of Sydney or t he counci l of t he City of Newcas t le for t he supply of electr ici ty shall d u r i n g the cu r rency of the ag reemen t have power to give such consent except wi th t he concurrence of t h e Munic ipa l Council of Sydney or t he council of t he City of Newcas t le as t he case m a y be.

(3) The counci l of t h e said ci ty or of a n y such area or of a coun ty distr ict m a y cont rac t w i t h t h e Commissioners for a supply of electr ici ty to such counci l and upon such t e rms and condit ions as m a y

be agreed upon . (4) All con t rac t s entered into by the Com­

missioners before the c o m m e n c e m e n t of the Govern­

m e n t Ra i lways (Supply of Electr ic i ty) Ac t , 1922,

for t h e supply of electr ici ty shall, if the said contracts would have been valid if made after such commencemen t , he and be deemed to have been valid and effectual from the m a k i n g of such con- t rac t s , and all t h ings done by the par t ies to such cont rac ts in p u r s u a n c e thereof are hereby ratified and confirmed.

3.    The Principal Act is further amended—

(a) by omitting from section fifty-three the words " t h e next preceding section" where firstly occurring and inserting' in lieu thereof the words

"of this	P a r t " ;
(b)	by omitting from the same section the words " and the next preceding section " occurring in the proviso and inserting in lieu thereof the
word " P a r t " ;
(c)	by omitting from the same section the words " and the said section " at the end and inserting in lieu thereof the word " P a r t " ;
(d)	by adding to subclause (b)at the end the words " or for the supply of electricity."

4 . The Principal Act is further amended by the insertion in section fifty-four after the word " t r ac t i on" of the words " or supply."

5 . The Principal Act is further amended by inserting

after section iiftv-four the following new section :—

54A. Any person who negligently breaks or

injures the works or any part thereof shall be
liable to a penalty not exceeding five pounds.

6 . The Principal Act is further amended by adding at the end of section fifty-seven the words " o r the supply of electricity."
