Government Prices Oversight Amendment Act 2000

An Act to amend the Government Prices Oversight Act 1995

[Royal Assent 13 December 2000]

Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1Short titleThis Act may be cited as the Government Prices Oversight Amendment Act 2000 . 2CommencementThis Act commences on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent. 3Principal ActIn this Act, the Government Prices Oversight Act 1995 is referred to as the Principal Act. 4Long title amended The long title of the Principal Act is amended by omitting "principles" and substituting "principles, to provide for the monitoring of certain prices and certain activities of particular non-government bodies". 5Section 11A insertedAfter section 11 of the Principal Act , the following section is inserted in Division 1: 11ASpecial powers The Commission has the power, and is taken to always have had the power, to act as a consultant or agent in respect of any one or more of the following matters: (a) the monitoring of prices of petroleum products; (b) the monitoring of the compliance of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ACN 123 123 124) with its undertakings relating to pricing, service quality and product range in Tasmania given to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for the purposes of section 87B of the Trade Practices Act 1974 of the Commonwealth in respect of its merger with Colonial Ltd.
