WH E R E A S by the Gold Fields Ac t of 1861 cer ta in Commissioners and Jus t i ces of t he Peace be ing Commissioners a re directed
to fulfil ce r ta in dut ies a n d are clothed wi th cer ta in powers au thor i ty

a n d jur isdic t ion A n d whereas i t is in tended to dispense wi th such Commissioners in some of t he Gold Fields and i t is therefore necessary to provide for t h e discharge of such duties a n d t h e exercise of such powers au tho r i t y and jur isdic t ion in such Gold Fields Be i t therefore

enac ted b y t h e Queen ' s Mos t Exce l len t Majesty by a n d wi th t h e
advice and consent of t he Legis la t ive Council a n d Legis la t ive Assembly
of N e w Sou th "Wales in P a r l i a m e n t assembled and by t h e au tho r i t y of

t h e same as follows :—

1. A n y Jus t i ce of t h e Peace m a y exercise t he powers au thor i ty

a n d jur i sd ic t ion given by t h e said reci ted Ac t to any Commissioner or t o any Jus t i ce of t h e Peace be ing a Commissioner subject to t h e provisions of t h e said rec i ted Act .

2. This A c t shall commence a n d t ake effect on t h e first day of

M a y one t h o u s a n d e ight h u n d r e d and sixty-six and shall be styled and m a y be ci ted as t h e " Gold Fields A c t A m e n d m e n t

Act of 1866 ."
