W H E R E A S , in accordance wi th t he provisions of the Pub l i c W o r k s

A c t of 1888, the Legislat ive Assembly did, by resolut ion,

declare t h a t i t was expedient to carry out a cer ta in work , namely , t h e
cons t ruc t ion of an Elec t r i c T r a m w a y from Circular Quay , in t h e City
of Sydney, to t h e Redfern Ra i lway Station, and along Har r i s - s t ree t
f rom its intersect ion wi th George-street to i ts intersect ion wi th J o h n -

street in t h e said c i t y : And whereas on t h e pass ing of the said resolut ion a s t a tu to ry d u t y was by the said Ac t imposed on the Secretary for Pub l i c W o r k s to in t roduce a Bil l in to t h e said Assembly to sanction t h e car ry ing out of t he said w o r k : Bo i t therefore enacted by t h e

Queen ' s Most Exce l l en t Majes ty , by and w i t h t he advice and consent
of t he Legis la t ive Council a n d Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w South
W a l e s in P a r l i a m e n t assembled, and by the au thor i ty of the same, as
follows :—
1. The car ry ing out of t he said w o r k (more pa r t i cu la r ly

described in t h e Schedule to th is Act) is hereby sanctioned ; and the Secretary for Pub l i c W o r k s , or t he M e m b e r of t he Execu t ive Counci l for t h e t ime be ing per forming the duties of t h e said Secretary, is hereby author ised to u n d e r t a k e and car ry out t h e said work subject to t he provisions of th is Ac t .

2. The p lan of t he said work is t he p lan marked " George-

street and Harr i s - s t ree t E lec t r i c T r a m w a y , " s igned by the Secre tary
for Pub l i c W o r k s and counters igned b y t h e Engineer- in-Chief for

Ra i lways , and deposited in t h e publ ic office of t he said Secretary.

3 . T h e cost of car ry ing out the said work, es t imated a t one

h u n d r e d and t h i r t y thousand five h u n d r e d pounds , m a y be defrayed from such Loan Votes as are now or m a y hereafter be applicable to t h a t purpose , and shall no t unde r any c i rcumstances exceed the

es t imated cost b y more t h a n t e n per c en tum.
4. This A c t m a y be cited as t he " George-street and Har r i s -
street Elec t r ic T r a m w a y Act , 1890 . "
SCHEDULE.
George-street and Harris-street Electric Tramway.

The line commences at the eastern side of Circular Quay, and then following the curvature of the Quay passes the wharfs of the various ferry companies ; thence by way of Queen's wharf to George-street, and along the centre of that street to its junction with the existing tramway opposite Terminus-street; after following the existing steam lines for a distance of about two chains it again branches off at Harris- street, on which street the line will follow the centre until reaching John-street, where it terminates. A junction is also provided for with the existing lines leading to the Redfern Railway Station.
