GAMING CONTROL (COMMUNITY GAMING) (SWEEPSTAKES) REGULATIONS
Regulations under the Gaming Control Act
These Regulations may be cited as the
For the purposes of section 52(2) of the Act, a sweepstake may be conducted on the Melbourne Cup.
(1) The total value of tickets in a sweepstake shall not exceed $500.
(2) The organiser of a sweepstake shall not offer tickets for sale earlier than one month before the Melbourne Cup.
(3) The prize pool shall consist of the total amount invested by the entrants in the sweepstake, and the organiser of the sweepstake shall distribute the prize pool amongst the prizewinners.
(4) The organiser of a sweepstake shall not receive or pay to another person:
(a) wages or remuneration in connection with the conduct of the sweepstake; or
(b) commission on, or a percentage of, the cost of a ticket in the sweepstake.
(5) A person shall not seek to receive from, or pay to, another person a fee or other benefit for the right to enter a place where a sweepstake is to be conducted otherwise than the customary fee, if any, for admission to the place.
(6) A person shall not receive from, or pay to, another person a fee or other benefit other than the customary cost of admission to a place, if applicable, for the right to participate in a sweepstake.
Penalty: $2,000.
