Act No. 131, 1978.

An Act to amend the Gaming and Betting Act, 1912, to enable the Greyhound Racing Control Board to control and regulate the keeping of certain greyhounds and to approve the awarding of prizes, other than money, at a greyhound trial or training race. [Assented to, 21st December, 1978.]

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—

1. This Act may be cited as the "Gaming and Betting (Greyhound Racing Control Board) Further Amendment Act, 1978".

2. The Gaming and Betting Act, 1912, is amended in the

manner set forth in Schedule 1.

SCHEDULE 1.

A M E N D M E N T S TO THE GAMING AND BETTING A C T , 1912,

RELATING TO THE GREYHOUND RACING CONTROL BOARD.

(1 ) (a) Section 56G (1) ( a l ) —

After section 56G (1) ( a ) , inser t :—

( a l ) may control and regulate the keeping of grey­

hounds which are in the care or custody of

persons registered under the rules;

(b) Section 56G (1) ( b ) —

Omit the paragraph, insert instead :—

(b) shall, when so directed by the Minister, investi­ gate and furnish to the Minister a report and recommendation with respect to any matter relevant to—

(i) greyhound-racing; or

(ii)   the keeping of greyhounds which are in the care or custody of persons registered under the rules,

which is specified in the Minister's direction

to the Board;

(c) Section 56G (1) (d) ( i i i )—

Omit "clubs,", insert instead "clubs;".

(d) Section 56G (1) (d) ( iv) , ( v ) —

After section 56G (1) (d) (iii), inse r t :—

(iv)   for any purpose, other than a purpose referred to in subparagraph ( i ) , (ii) or (iii), conducive to the advancement and development of greyhound-racing; and

(v)    for any purpose relating to the welfare of greyhounds which are in the care or custody of persons registered under the rules, to any

person principally concerned in, or any body

principally established to ensure, the welfare of animals, including greyhounds, or to any person or body engaged in carrying out research in relation to greyhounds.

(e) Section 56G (1) (d) —

Omit "and for any other purpose conducive to the advancement and development of greyhound-racing."

(2 ) Section 56H ( 1 ) —

After "greyhound-racing", insert "and the control and regulation of the keeping of greyhounds which are in the care or custody of persons registered under the rules".

( 3 ) Section 56HB ( b ) —

Omit ", valuable thing or privilege".

(4 ) Section 56M (1) (a) —

Omit "stewards or of", insert instead "stewards appointed by the Board or stewards or".
