GAMING AND BETTING

No. 42 of 1967

An Ordinance relating to Gaming and Betting.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Gaining and Betting Ordinance 1967.*

2 . In this Ordinance, " the Gaming and Betting Act, 1906 " means the Gaming and Betting Act, 1906 of the State of New South Wales, in its application to the Territory, as amended by the Gaming and Betting (Amendment) Act, 1906 of that State and the Gaming and Betting (Amendment) Act, 1907 of that State, in their application to the Territory, and by the Racecourses Ordinance 1935-1959, the Gaming and Betting Ordinance 1945, the Racecourses Ordinance 1946, the Gaming and Betting Ordinance 1964 and the Ordinances Revision (Decimal Currency) Ordinance 1966.

3.   Section 19B of the Gaming and Betting Act, 1906 is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-section (2.) the

word " or " (last occurring); and

(b) by omitting paragraph (b) of sub-section (2.) and inserting

in its stead the following paragraphs:—

"(b) a determination of the Australian Capital Territory

Totalizator Agency Board under the Betting (Off- course Totalizator Agency) Ordinance 1964; or

(c) a newspaper that contains an advertisement or

notification as to the betting or betting odds on any intended race or contest to be held at a race- meeting if the advertisement or notification—

(i)   is contained in an edition of the newspaper

that is printed or in respect of which print­ ing has commenced before eleven o'clock in the morning of the day of the race-meeting or not less than two hours before the adver­ tised starting time of the first race or contest to be held at the race-meeting, whichever is the later; and

Authorised by the ACT Parliamentary Counsel—also accessible at

(ii)   is identical in all copies of that edition of

the newspaper."; and

(c) by adding at the end thereof the following sub-section:—

" (3.) In this section—

'betting' and 'betting odds' include totalizator divi- dends and probable totalizator dividends; and

'race-meeting' means horse, pony, trotting race or

races, coursing event or other sport or exercise.".
