AN ACT to amend section thirty-five of the Friendly

Societies Act, 1894-1938.

[Assented to 20th December, 1939.]

BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty,by and with the advice and consent of the Legis-

lative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

Short title. 1.

This Act may be cited as the Friendly Societies Act Amendment Act, 1939, and shall be read as one with the Friendly Societies Act, 1894-1938 (58 Viet., No. 23, as reprinted in the Appendix to the Sessional Volume of the Statutes for the year 1923 and amended by the Acts No. 38 of 1930 and No. 38 of 1938), hereinafter referred to as the principal Act.

Amendment

Section thirty-five of the principal Act is amended

by deleting the proviso thereto and inserting in lieu •
thereof a proviso as follows:

Provided that the committee of management of any society may, according as it may deem just or expedient, but subject to the approval of the Regis- trar, and for such period only as lie may determine, suspend either wholly or in part the liability to pay contributions to such society, or any branch thereof, and suspend or modify the benefits in such society, or any branch thereof, of any member who during any period in which the Commonwealth of Australia is engaged in any war is engaged on active service, whether within or outside the limits of the said Com- monwealth, as a member of His Majesty's naval, military, or air -forces.

Citation of 3. The principal Act as amended by this Act may be
