His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Food Act 1989.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Food (General) Regulation 1997so as to make minor changes to the requirements for the construction of walls and ceilings of premises in which food is sold or handled. These amendments ensure that walls and ceilings are designed and constructed in a way that is appropriate for the activities conducted on the premises.
This Regulation is made under the Food Act 1989, including section 90 (the general regulation-making power, and in particular section 90 (2) (k) and (af)).

This Regulation is the Food (General) Amendment (Premises)
Regulation 2000.
2 Amendment of Food (General) Regulation 1997
The Food (General) Regulation 1997 is amended as set out in
Schedule 1.

Clause 10 Construction of walls and ceilings of premises
Omit clause 10. Insert instead:
10 Construction of walls and ceilings of premises
(1) The walls and ceilings of any premises in which food is handled must be designed and constructed in a way that is appropriate for the sale or handling of food on those premises.
(2) In particular, the walls and ceilings must:
(a)
as far as practicable, not provide harbourage for pests, and
(b)
be sealed to prevent the entry of dirt, dust and pests, and
(c)
be smooth-faced and unable to absorb grease, food particles or water, and
(d) be kept in good repair.
