Fisheries (Recreational) (Salmonid) Regulations

1997

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to provide for effective management of salmonid fishery by imposing a close season and other restrictions on fishing for salmonids in Victoria.

2. Authorising provision

These Regulations are made under section 81 of the Fisheries Act 1968.

3. Principal Regulations

In these Regulations, the Fisheries (Recreational)
Regulations 19921 are called the Principal
Regulations.

4. Commencement

(1) These Regulations (other than regulations 6, 7 and

8) come into operation on the day on which these

Regulations are made.

(2) Regulations 6, 7 and 8 come into operation on 6

September 1997.

5. New regulation 18

For regulation 18 of the Principal Regulations,
substitute—

"18. Close seasons

(1) For the purposes of the Act the close seasons

for fin-fish and the areas and periods for
which they apply are specified in the table

below—

chinook salmon and rainbow trout, a person
must not take during the close season brown
trout, chinook salmon or rainbow trout

(a) Lake Wendouree; or

(b) whilst in a boat, from Lake Purrumbete.".

6.  Size and bag limit restrictions on taking of brown trout, rainbow trout and chinook salmon

For the Table in regulation 19 of the Principal

Regulations, substitute—

7.  Restriction on the use of trout or salmon ova as bait or berley

At the end of regulation 21 of the Principal
Regulations, insert—

Fisheries (Recreational) (Salmonid) Regulations 1997

"(2) A person must not use trout or salmon ova as

bait or berley to take or attempt to take fish

of any species.

Penalty: 20 penalty units.".
