The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

PART 1—PRELIMINARY MATTERS
1. Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to ensure the long term sustainability of bream stocks in the Gippsland Lakes and their inflowing waters by protecting stocks from overfishing by—
(a)
temporarily increasing the minimum size limit for the taking of bream in the Gippsland Lakes and their inflowing waters; and
(b)
temporarily introducing a bag limit for the taking of bream in the Gippsland Lakes and their inflowing waters.

2. Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 81 of the Fisheries Act 1968.
3. Commencement
(1) This Part and Part 2 come into operation on the
day these Regulations are made.
(2) Part 3 comes into operation on 1 July 1997.
4. Principal Regulations
In these Regulations the Fisheries (Recreational)
Regulations 19921 are called the PrincipalRegulations.

PART 2—PROVISIONS THAT TAKE EFFECT
IMMEDIATELY
5. Increase in size limit for bream taken from the Gippsland Lakes
In the Table in regulation 16 of the Principal
Regulations, for—
"Bream (all species) 24"
substitute—
"Bream (all species) (other than in theGippsland Lakes and their inflowing
waters) 24
Bream (all species) (in the Gippsland
Lakes and their inflowing waters) 26".
6. Introduction of bag limit for bream taken from the Gippsland Lakes
In the Table in regulation 19(1) of the Principal Regulations, before the item relating to Chinook salmon insert—
"Bream (all Gippsland Lakes and species) their inflowing
waters 5 Bream (all
Gippsland Lakes and A maximum of 15 species)
their inflowing fish per boat per waters day".

Regulations, for—

substitute—

Regulations, omit—
