His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Fisheries Management Act 1994.

Explanatory note
The objects of this Regulation are:
(a) to increase, from 50 penalty units ($5,000) to 100 penalty units ($10,000), the maximum fine for the offence of taking (or attempting to take) blue, brown or red groper by any method other than by the use of a rod and line or a handline (Schedule 1 [1]), and (b) to increase the “on-the-spot” fine for the same offence from $300 to $500 (Schedule 1 [2]). This Regulation is made under the Fisheries Management Act 1994, and, in particular, under sections 23 (Regulations relating to fishing gear), 276 (Penalty notices) and 289 (the general regulation-making power),

1 Name of Regulation
This Regulation is the Fisheries Management (General)
Amendment (Taking of Groper) Regulation 1997.
2 Commencement
This Regulation commences on 25 April 1997.
3 Amendment of Fisheries Management (General) Regulation 1995
The Fisheries Management (General) Regulation 1995 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.

The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation.
