FISHERIES MANAGEMENT ACT 1991

HIGH SEAS FISHERY

TEMPORARY ORDER

I, RICHARD McLOUGHLIN delegate of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority, being satisfied that –

a) it is necessary to take quick action under section 43 of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 (the Act) as circumstances exist where urgent action is required for purposes related to the management of Australian boats in the High Seas Fishery;

b)   the action is consistent with AFMA’s legislative objectives; and

c)   no other action is appropriate.

Order that fishing is prohibited from the areas of waters specified in the Schedule below:

Schedule

South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation

Area of waters outside of national jurisdictions bounded by a line joining the following points along parallel of latitude and meridians of longitude:

1. beginning at the outer limit of waters under national jurisdiction at a point 6° South,

1. thence due west along the 6º South parallel to the meridian 10° West,

1. thence due north along the 10º West meridian to the equator,

1. thence due west along the equator to the meridian 20° West,

1. thence due south along the 20º West meridian to a parallel 50° South,

1. thence due east along the 50º South parallel to the meridian 30° East, and

1. thence due north along the 30º East meridian to the coast of the African continent.

North East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation

Area of waters outside of national jurisdictions:

1.      within those parts of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans and their dependent seas which lie north of 36° north latitude and between 42° west longitude and 51° east longitude, but excluding:

(a)     the Baltic Sea and the Belts lying to the south and east of lines drawn from Hasenøre Head to Gniben Point, from Korshage to Spodsbjerg and from Gilbjerg Head to the Kullen and

(b)     the Mediterranean Sea and its dependent seas as far as the point of intersection of the parallel of 36° latitude and the meridian of 5°36' west longitude

2.      within that part of the Atlantic Ocean north of 59° north latitude and between 44° west longitude and 42° west longitude.

Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation

Area of waters of the Northwest Atlantic Ocean:

1. north of 35º00' north latitude and west of a line extending due north from 35º00' north latitude and 42º00' west longitude to 59º00' north latitude,

1. thence due west to 44º00' west longitude, and

1. thence due north to the coast of Greenland, and the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Davis Strait and Baffin Bay south of 78º10' north latitude.

General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean

Area of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea and connecting waters.
