The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

PART 1—PRELIMINARY MATTERS
1. Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to ensure the long term sustainability of bream stocks in the Gippsland Lakes and their inflowing waters by protecting stocks from overfishing by—
(a)
temporarily introducing a weekly catch limit for bream in the Gippsland Lakes for a person holding a master fisherman's licence; and
(b)
temporarily increasing the minimum size limit for the taking of bream in the Gippsland Lakes and their inflowing waters.

2. Authorising provision
These Regulations are made under section 81 of the Fisheries Act 1968.
3. Commencement
(1) This Part and Part 2 come into operation on the
day these Regulations are made.
(2) Part 3 comes into operation on 1 July 1997.
4. Principal Regulations
In these Regulations the Fisheries (Commercial)
Regulations 19921 are called the PrincipalRegulations.

PART 2—PROVISIONS THAT TAKE EFFECT
IMMEDIATELY
5. Increase in size limit for bream in the Gippsland Lakes
In the table in regulation 43 of the Principal
Regulations, for—
"Bream (all species) 25.5"
substitute—
"Bream (all species) (other than in
the Gippsland Lakes and their
inflowing waters) 25.5Bream (all species) (in the Gippsland
Lakes and their inflowing waters) 26".
6. Introduction of further conditions on master fisherman's licence
After regulation 50(7) of the Principal Regulations
insert—"(8) It is a condition of a master fisherman's
licence endorsed as valid for fishing in the
Gippsland Lakes that, when operating a
registered fishing boat in the GippslandLakes the licence holder—
(a)
must not take any more than 730 kilograms of bream (any species) from those waters during any one calendar month; and
(b)
must, each day before landing the catch, record on a form provided by the Secretary the weight of all bream (any species) taken during that day; and
(c)
must keep a record of daily catches of bream (all species) from those waters for the current month in his or her possession while fishing or transporting

7. Decrease in size limit for bream in the Gippsland Lakes
In the table in regulation 43 of the Principal
Regulations, for—
"Bream (all species) (other than in
the Gippsland Lakes and their
inflowing waters) 25.5Bream (all species) (in the Gippsland
Lakes and their inflowing waters) 26"
substitute—
"Bream (all species) 25.5".8. Removal of further conditions on master fisherman's licence
Regulation 50(8) of the Principal Regulations is revoked.
