FISHERIES AND OYSTER FARMS ACT 1935—REGULATION
(Relating to shovel-nosed lobsters)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council,
and in pursuance of the Fisheries and Oyster Farms Act 1935, has been
pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Fisheries and Oyster Farms (General) Regulation 1989 is amended
by omitting from clause 45 the words “or a rock lobster’’ wherever
occurring and by inserting instead the words “a shovel-nosed lobster, a
rock lobster”.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Fisheries and Oyster Farms
(General) Regulation 1989 to restrict the taking of shovel-nosed lobsters (otherwise
known as Balmain bugs and Moreton Bay bugs).
The Regulation adds shovel-nosed lobsters to the crustaceans listed in clause 45 that a person cannot lawfully take, possess, or deal in etc. if they are carrying ova
externally, or possess if they have had ova removed deliberately.
