Firearms Amendment Regulations 2003

I, the Lieutenant-Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Firearms Act 1996 .27 June 2003

1Short titleThese regulations may be cited as the Firearms Amendment Regulations 2003 . 2CommencementThese regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette. 3Principal RegulationsIn these regulations, the Firearms Regulations 1996 are referred to as the Principal Regulations. 4Regulations 4A and 4B insertedAfter regulation 4 of the Principal Regulations , the following regulations are inserted: 4AProhibited pistols For the purpose of the definition of "prohibited pistol" in section 3 of the Act, the following pistols are prescribed as prohibited pistols: (a) a pistol that exceeds .38 inch calibre; (b) a semi-automatic pistol that has a barrel length of less than 120 millimetres; (c) a revolver that has a barrel length of less than 100 millimetres; (d) a single-shot pistol that has a barrel length of less than 100 millimetres; (e) a pistol that has a magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. 4BPrescribed events For the purpose of section 18(4) and section 58A of the Act, the following are prescribed events: (a) Western (Single) Action Event; (b) Metallic Silhouette Event.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation) These regulations amend the

(a) prescribing certain pistols as prohibited pistols; and (b) prescribing certain events at which prohibited pistols may be used.
