Firearms (Amendment) Regulations 1999

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective

The objectives of these Regulations are to amend the Firearms Regulations 19971 to specify the nature of interstate permits, held by international visitors, that are recognised as temporary visitor permits for the purposes of the Act, and to enable the issue of a handgun licence in relation to the training and trialing of dogs.

2. Authorising provisions

These Regulations are made under sections
15(1)(c), 186A and 191 of the Firearms Act

1996.

3. Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on

22 August 1999.

4. Amendment of regulation 20

Firearms (Amendment) Regulations 1999

After regulation 20(4)(b) of the Firearms

Regulations 1997 insert—

"; or

(c)

for the purposes of the training and trialing, with a handgun, being a handgun which is and has always been constructed for the purpose of starting sporting events, of dogs registered with a club or association which undertakes the training and trialing of dogs and which has been incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981.".

5. Insertion of new regulation 21

After regulation 20 of the Firearms Regulations
1997 insert—
"21. Exemption for international visitors

For the purpose of section 186A of the Act, permits are those authorities which authorise the possession, carriage or use of—

(a)

a category A or B longarm or a handgun for the purposes of sport or target shooting; or

(b)

a category C longarm being a shotgun for the purposes of clay target shooting.".
