FIREARMS ACT 1996 No 46—PROCLAMATION

(L.S.) G. SAMUELS, Governor.

I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels, AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Firearms Act 1996, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 23 August 1996 as the day on which that Act commences, except for the following provisions:

(a) Parts 2–5, 7 and 8,

(b)

sections 50, 51, 53, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 62, 63, 65, 68, 69, 70, 71, 78, 89 and 90,

(c) Schedule 2,
(d) Part 2 of Schedule 3.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Proclamation is to commence the Firearms Act 1996

with the exception of those provisions relating to the new licensing and registration scheme for firearms, appeal rights, the compensation scheme payable for surrendering prohibited firearms and certain other provisions. This Proclamation is made under section 2 of the Act.
