Firearms Act 1996 Firearms (General) Amendment (Temporary Permits) Regulation 1999 (1999-654) [GG No 141 of 17.12.1999, p 11907] (NSW)
1999 No 654
| Firearms (General) Amendment | New South Wales |
(Temporary Permits) Regulation 1999
under the
Firearms Act 1996
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Firearms Act 1996.
PAUL WHELAN, M.P.,
Minister for Police
Explanatory note
The Firearms (General) Regulation 1997 currently enables the Commissioner of Police to issue a temporary permit authorising a person to possess or use a firearm if that person is not a resident of Australia and is visiting, or intends to visit, New South Wales for the purpose of competing in a firearms competition. Such a permit is in force for no more than 3 months from the date of issue.
The object of this Regulation is to enable a temporary permit to be issued for more than 3 months if, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Police, there are reasonable grounds to do so (such as for the purposes of enabling international competitors to compete in events associated with the 2000 Olympics).
This Regulation is made under the Firearms Act 1996, including sections 30 and
88 (the general power to make regulations).
