Minister for PoliceThis Regulation is consequential on the making of the Prohibited Weapons Amendment (Imitationsand Replicas of Firearms ) Regulation 1998 (that Regulation adds imitations and replicas of firearms to the list of prohibited weapons in the Prohibited Weapons Act 1989). This Regulation will provide that a person is exempt from the requirement to hold a firearms licence or permit authorising the possession or use of an imitation or replica firearm if the person holds a permit under the Prohibited Weapons Act 1989 for that imitation or replica firearm. This Regulation is made under the Firearms Act 1996, including section 88
(the general regulation making power), in particular section 88 (2) (r).

2 Amendment of Firearms (General) Regulation 1997
The Firearms (General) Regulation 1997 is amended as set out
in Schedule 1.
The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation.

Clause 113A
Insert after clause 113:
113A Exemption relating to imitations and repl icas of firearms A person is exempt from the requirement under the Act to hold a licence or permit authorising possession or use of a prohibited firearm referred to in item 17 of Schedule 1 to the Act if the person is the holder of a permit under the Prohibited Weapons Act 1989 authorising the person to possess or use the prohibited firearm.
