Case

New South Wales
under the
Firearms Act 1996
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Firearms Act 1996.
PAUL WHELAN. M.P.,
Minister for Police
At present under the Firearms Act 1996, a firearm that substantially duplicates in appearance a walking stick or walking cane is listed as a prohibited firearm. The possession or use of such a firearm without a special permit is prohibited.
The object of this Regulation is to extend this category of prohibited firearms to cover any firearm that looks like something else other than a firearm and disguises or conceals the fact that it is a firearm. Apart from guns that look like walking sticks, an example of the type of firearm concerned is an article known as a "key ring pistol".
This Regulation is made under the Firearms Act 1996, including section 5.
