FIREARMS ACT 1989—REGULATION

(Relating to numbering of antique pistols)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Firearms Act 1989, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Firearms Regulation 1990 is amended by inserting after clause 88

(3) the following subclauses:

(4) This clause does not apply to an antique pistol that is a flint lock,

wheel lock or percussion cap pistol.

(5) In this clause:

“antique pistol” means a pistol manufactured before 1900:

(a)

that is not capable of discharging breech-loaded cartridges; or

(b)

for which, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Police, ammunition is not commercially available.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to exempt antique flint lock, wheel lock and percussion cap pistols from the provision of the Firearms Regulation 1990 which enables the Commissioner of Police to order that a pistol be engraved with a number alloted to the pistol.
