8266 DENTISTS-FIRE BRIGADES. Fire Brigade, A.ct A.mendmer/t A.ct. 2 EDw. VII. No. 21. Generally. (xiv.) Generally for carrying int9 effect the objects of this Act. (2.) A By-law may impose a penalty for any breach thereof, and may also impose different penalties in case of successive breaches. But no such penalty shall exceed twenty pounds. (3.) All such By-laws upon being so approved shall be published in the Gazette, and shall thereupon have the same effect as if they were a part of this Act. The pro- duction of a copy of the Gazette containing a notification of the approval thereof by the Governor in Council shall, in all proceedings, be sufficient evidence of such By-laws. "Local Authorities Act"-The laws in force for the time being relating to the constitution and powers of Local Authorities; Local Authority. "Local Authority"- A Local Authority, whether the Council of a Municipality or the Board of a Division or the Council of a City or Town or Shire, constituted under the Lo,cal Autliorities Act; • 45 Vie. " District "-'The locality under the jurisdiction of District. a LocalAuthority, and any area adjacent thereto, which may be specified in the proclamation declaring "The Fire Briga,de,'$ Acts, 18'31 to 1902," to be in force. (2.) The word" town," wherever the same occurs in sections two, three, five, six, eight, ten, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty of the Principal Act, and in sections thre~, four, five, six, seven, eight, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen, and the Schedule of "The Fire Brigades Act Amendment Act ~f 1882,"* is repealed, and the word" district" is inserted in every case in lieu thereof. (3.) The word "municipality," wherever the same occurs in section four of the Principal Act, is repealed, and the word" district" is inserted in lieu thereof. (4.) In the first paragraph of section six of the Principal Act, the words" may at any time hereafter, when he sees fit so to do by Proclamation in the Gazette, extend the provisions of this Act to the suburbs of, or to any area adjacent to any town, to which the provisions of this Act or the said repealed Act are extended" are repealed; and the words "on the recommendation of the Local Authority having jurisdiction in any area adjacent to any district to which the provisions of this Act or the said repealed Act are extended may, by proclamation in the Gazetfe, extend this Act to such area" are inserted in lieu thereof; and the words "suburbs or," wherever the same occur in the second paragraph of the said section, are repealed. (:).) The words "council" and "municipal council," wherever the same occur in sections four, fourteen, seven- teen, and eighteen of the Principal Act, and in sections six and twelve of "The Fire Brigades Ad Amendment Act of 1882,"* are repealed, and the words" Local Authority" are inserted in every case in lieu thereof. (6.) The words "mayor of the town," and" mayor," wherever the same occur in section fourteen of the Principal Aet, and in section six of "The Fire Brigades Act Amendment Act 0(1882,"* are repealed, and the words "chairman of the Local Authority" are inserted in every case in lieu thereof. (7.) In section seventeen of the Principal Act, the words "as shown by the detailed account which they are required to furnish to the Colonial 'rreasurer in support of their claim to the annual endowment provided for in 'The Local Government Act of 1878,''' are repealed.
