AN ORDINANCE

To amend the Fire Brigades Ordinance 1957.

FIRE BRIGADES ORDINANCE 1958.

1.—(1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Fire Brigades short title

Ordinance 1958.* " and citation.
(2.) The Fire Brigades Ordinance 1957f is in this

Ordinance referred to as the Principal Ordinance.

(3.) The Principal Ordinance, as amended by this Ordinance, may be cited as the Fire Brigades Ordinance 1957-1958.

2.—(1.) After section five of the Principal Ordinance the

following section is inserted:—

Board of Fire Commissioners of the State of New South Wales— SfVife"E " 5A. The Minister may enter into an arrangement with the Arrangement

Commissioners

(a) for the manning by employees of the Board of the o f N S W

fire brigades established under this Ordinance;

and

(b) for the giving of advice by the Board with respect

to—

(i) preventing the outbreak of fires;

(ii) protecting persons or property from fire;

or

(iii) extinguishing fires.".

(2.) An arrangement entered into by the Minister with the Board of Fire Commissioners of the State of New South Wales before the commencement of this Ordinance, being an arrange- ment for a purpose specified in section five A of the Fire Brigades Ordinance 1957-1958, shall be deemed to be an arrangement entered into by virtue of that section.

Appointment of 3. Section six of the Principal Ordinance is amended by
offiS'and omitting sub-section (1.) and inserting in its stead the following

SrTfiSbSS*. sub-sections:—

"(1.) The Minister shall appoint the Chief Officer and

other members of a fire brigade.

" ( 1 A . ) A fire brigade shall be under the command of the

Chief Officer.".
