FINES ACT 1996 NO 99—PROCLAMATION
(L.S.) GORDON SAMUELS, Governor.
I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 of the Fines Act 1996, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 1 October 1997 as the day on which clause 2 of Schedule 3 to that Act commences.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The object of this Proclamation is to commence a provision of the Fines Act 1996 that begins the amnesty period relating to the enforcement of existing fines. On the commencement of the remainder of the Act, the new procedures for fine enforcement will apply to existing fines. However, during the amnesty period (which is to be for a minimum period of 3 months) enforcement action is suspended to enable fine defaulters to pay their existing fines before the new procedures are applied.
