Building Better Regions Fund

To support regional and remote communities by providing grants for infrastructure and community investment projects which create jobs and encourage economic growth in such communities.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing grants:

(a) in connection with trade and commerce with other countries, or among the States and Territories; or

(b) in connection with electronic communications; or

(c) in relation to aliens or immigrants; or

(d) to provide medical services, unemployment, pharmaceutical, sickness and hospital benefits, benefits to students, and measures incidental to the provision of those services or benefits; or

(e) to, or in relation to, Indigenous Australians and particular groups of Indigenous Australians; or

(f) to meet its obligations under international agreements, including under:

(i) the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, particularly Article 6; or

(ii) the International Labour Organization’s Convention concerning Employment Policy; or

(g) for the construction or extension of railways in any State with the consent of that State; or

(h) in the exercise of the executive power of the Commonwealth; or

(i) to provide for measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation; or

(j) as financial assistance to a State or Territory; or

(k) in, or in relation to, a Territory.
