To fund world‑leading quantum computing research to develop a silicon quantum integrated circuit.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to funding measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.

Global Innovation Strategy

To support science, technology and innovation collaboration between Australian businesses and researchers and their international counterparts.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing support:

(a) for the fostering or promotion of interstate or overseas trade and commerce; or

(b) in relation to places, persons, matters or things external to Australia or matters affecting Australia’s relations with foreign countries; or

(c) by engaging in measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.

Expanding Opportunities for Women in STEM

To provide funding for the following:

(a) measures that promote the free choice of profession and employment by encouraging and supporting girls and women to pursue a career in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), including by providing vocational guidance;

(b) measures that teach women how to start a business;

(c) measures that provide vocational training to women;

(d) measures that assist employers to eliminate discrimination against women;

(e) the development and implementation of gender equity accreditation processes;

(f) the evaluation of any of the above measures;

to the extent that these activities would assist Australia to meet its obligations under the following:

(g) the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, particularly Articles 2, 3, 4,10, 11 and 24;

(h) the International Labour Organization’s Convention concerning Vocational Guidance and Vocational Training in the Development of Human Resources, particularly Articles 1, 2 and 4;

(i) the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, particularly Articles 2 and 6.

Prime Minister’s Prizes

To provide national prizes and awards to individuals and institutions, recognising achievement in science and innovation.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing support:

(a) to provide benefits to students; or

(b) by engaging in measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.

Science and Mathematics Olympiads

To support the selection of students to represent Australia at international events, through funding for the Science and Mathematics Olympiads.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing support:

(a) in relation to places, persons, matters or things external to Australia or matters affecting Australia’s relations with foreign countries; or

(b) by engaging in measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.

Asian Physics Olympiad

To support the hosting by Australia in 2019 of the Asian Physics Olympiad.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing support:

(a) in relation to places, persons, matters or things external to Australia or matters affecting Australia’s relations with foreign countries; or

(b) by engaging in measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.

International Science Competitions

To provide funding for individual young Australians to participate in, and represent Australia at, international science competitions.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing funding:

(a) in relation to places, persons, matters or things external to Australia or matters affecting Australia’s relations with foreign countries; or

(b) by engaging in measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.

STEM Community Engagement

To provide funding for the following:

(a) an annual National Youth Science Forum;

(b) science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) events for primary and secondary school students;

(c) scholarships that enable students to attend STEM events.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing funding:

(a) to give effect to Australia’s obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 29; or

(b) in or in relation to a Territory; or

(c) to provide benefits to students; or

(d) to engage in measures that are peculiarly adapted to the government of a nation and cannot otherwise be carried on for the benefit of the nation.
