Grants for support relating to stillbirth, miscarriage and newborn death

To provide funding to organisations to provide in‑hospital, home and other support for women and their families following stillbirth, miscarriage or newborn death, including support of the following kinds:

(a) home visits, or telephone or video conference support, by trained support workers;

(b) medical support, including organising follow‑up medical visits, providing support during the post‑mortem process, explaining report findings and organising appointments with other practitioners;

(c) in‑hospital support, including making funeral arrangements, supporting memory‑making and cancelling antenatal classes;

(d) support for affected women, and members of their families, in transitioning back to work;

(e) support for children in affected families, including in transitioning back to school.

This objective also has the effect it would have if it were limited to providing funding for measures:

(a) to give effect to Australia’s obligations under either or both of the following:

(i) the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, particularly Articles 2 and 12;

(ii) the Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Articles 4 and 24; or

(b) which provide, or are incidental to the provision of, medical services (within the meaning of paragraph 51(xxiiiA) of the Constitution); or

(c) with respect to postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services (within the meaning of paragraph 51(v) of the Constitution).
