Reducing silicosis and other silica‑related diseases by increasing awareness

To raise awareness of, and provide education, information or advice about, the following:

(a) the risks to health caused by exposure to respirable crystalline silica or engineered stone that is in situ;

(b) measures that should be taken to prevent workers developing silicosis or any another other silica‑related disease;

(c) the effect of laws, including proposed changes to laws, that seek to reduce the incidence of silicosis and other silica‑related diseases in Australia.

This objective has the effect it would have if it were limited to measures:

(a) with respect to postal, telegraphic, telephonic, and other like services (within the meaning of paragraph 51(v) of the Constitution); or

(b) to give effect to Australia’s obligations under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, particularly Articles 2 and 12; or

(c) undertaken in, or in relation to, a Territory.
