PROVISIONAL REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903-1911.

Financial and Allowance Regulations (Provisional) for the Military Forces of the Commonwealth.

New Regulation 86b.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby certify that on account of urgency the following Regulation under the Defence Act 1903-1911 should come into immediate operation, and make the Regulation to come into operation forthwith as a Provisional Regulation.

FINANCIAL AND ALLOWANCE REGULATIONS (Provisional) FOR THE MILITARY FORCES OF THE COMMONWEALTH.

New Regulation 86b.

After Regulation 86a, insert the following New Regulation:—

86a. The following shall be the rates of pay for Junior Assistants and Assistants, viz.:––

Provided that a Junior Assistant of 21 years of age or over may be paid salary at the rate of £110 per annum, but the payment of such salary under this provision shall not be taken into consideration for purposes of seniority or future advancement. On completion of 4 years’ service as Junior Assistant, may be advanced to the grade of Assistant.

After at least two years’ service at the maximum may be granted a further increment of £6; and after an additional two years’ service, a further increment of £6.

The minimum and maximum rates shown indicate the limits of pay for each Grade and appointments may be made by the Minister at any rate of pay within those limits.

In the case of the appointment of Junior Assistants, the same procedure shall be observed as laid down for Messengers, Class A.

Applications to fill vacancies for Assistants shall be invited in the metropolitan press, and in District Orders of the State concerned, and the applications, accompanied by the Commandant’s recommendation shall be submitted to Head-Quarters. Candidates must not be more than 45 years of age.
