REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903-1918

advice of the Federal Executive Council hereby make the following Regulations
under the

Financial and Allowance Regulations for the Australian Military Forces and Senior Cadets, 1921.
Financial and Allowance Regulations are amended as follows:—
(
“Nor shall it have application to the members referred to in sub-paragraph (ii) of this regulation.”
Add new sub-paragraph (ii)—
“(ii) The sum of seven shillings per week shall be withheld from the pay of men enlisted in Australian Instructional Corps who on enlistment undergo a course of training at the Central Training Depôt. This deduction shall continue for the period of the course. Sums so deducted shall be payable as arrears on the conclusion of the course but a soldier who deserts or is discharged prior to the completion of the course shall forfeit such arrears unless otherwise approved by the Military Board.
This deduction shall not be made in the case of members of other units of the Permanent Forces attending the course mentioned preparatory to transfer to the Australian Instructional Corps.”
(
Delete the letter “(
d )”at the beginning of the line reading “Member of the Armament Artificers Corps £5,” and insert in lieu thereof, the letter “(c )”.

and insert in lieu thereof, the following:—
“Payment shall be made quarterly in arrear in the months of September, December, March and June.” (To have effect as from 1st July, 1921.)

201. (i) Motor cars shall only be hired for such official duties as cannot efficiently be performed by the medium of normally available means of transport.
(ii) Subject to the provisions of sub-paragraph (i) of this regulation a member using his own car on official duty for which the hire of a car has been approved, may be paid an allowance at the rate of ninepence per mile for each mile travelled on such official duty.
(iii) A member using his own car or motor cycle in lieu of available ordinary means of transport for journeys which have been approved in connexion with official duty may receive an allowance equal to one adult rail or other fare that would have been spent had the ordinary means, of transport been used, and, in addition, may be paid the travelling allowance prescribed in regulation 196, provided, however, that no payment shall be made in excess of travelling or meal allowance that would have been incurred had the ordinary means of transport been used.
(iv) Free issues of petrol shall not be made to members who use their own motor cars or motor cycles on official duty.
