1919. No. 126.

REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903-1918.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence Act 1903-1918, to come into operation forthwith.

Amendment of Financial and Allowance Regulations.

Financial and Allowance Regulations for the Australian Military Forces and Senior Cadets are amended as follows:—

(1) Sub-regulation (a)of regulation 93 is repealed and the following sub-regulation made in lieu thereof, to come into operation as from 1st April, 1919:—

(a) Warrant Officer, Class I

£250 to £290.

Garrison Sergeant-Major

Increments—four biennial increments of £10 each; sub-divisional rates being—£250, £260, £270, £280, £290.

Warrant Officers who during the year 1919 would have qualified, under the Regulations existing on 31st March, 1919, for the sub-divisional rate of £285, shall be paid at the sub-divisional rate of £290 from 1st April, 1919.

Warrant Officer, Class I.

£230 to £285.

Staff Regimental Sergeant-Major

Increments—one biennial increment of £15, and two of £10 each, a long service increment of £10 on completion of 3 years’ service, at £265 per annum, and a further £10 per annum on completion of 3 years’ service at £275 per annum; sub-divisional rates being £230, £245, £255, £265, £275, £285.

 

Provided, that Warrant Officers who on 1st April, 1919, had for more than 2 years received pay at the rate of £234 or £244 per annum shall, if no disciplinary reason exists, be paid at the rate of £245 per annum from 1st April, 1919, and shall count the period of two years necessary for the next increment from the date on which they commenced the third year at £234 or £244.

Warrant Officer, Class II.

£200 to £220.

Staff Sergeant-Major......................

Increments—biennial increments of £10 each, sub-divisional rates being—£200, £210, £220,

Warrant Officers whose rates of pay on 31st March, 1919, do not coincide with one of the existing sub-divisions will be paid the sub-divisional rate next higher than the amount they were receiving on that date.

Provisional

Staff £180.

Sergeant-Major

(on probation)

All increments shall be dependent on the approval of the Commandant, and provision being made by Parliament.

A Staff Regimental Sergeant-Major, in receipt of a salary higher than the minimum herein prescribed for a Garrison Sergeant-Major, shall, on promotion or appointment to the latter rank be allotted the next higher sub-divisional rate of pay to that of which he was in receipt as a Staff Regimental Sergeant-Major.”

(2) Regulation 338 is repealed, and the following regulation made in lieu thereof, to come into operation as from 1st April, 1919:—

“Provost Staff.

“338. The annual rates of pay shall be as follows:—

Assistant Provost Marshal.............................................

£312

Provost Sergeant Major................................................

£230

Provost Sergeant..........................................................

£170

These rates of pay shall be inclusive of all allowances, except ‘Travelling,’ which may be granted at the rates laid down for members of the Military Forces of corresponding rank.

Provided that on first appointment Sergeants-Major and Sergeants of the Provost Staff may receive a sum not exceeding £5 for the purchase of such articles of uniform as may be approved by the Military Board. Claims must be supported by vouchers, and be approved by the Commandant.

Provided, further, that during the period of the War, non-commissioned officers of the Provost Staff may, in addition to the rates provided above, be paid a war allowance of 9d. per diem. To take effect as from 1st July, 1917.”
