Finance Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Audit Act 1901.

Officers to exercise due economy

Regulation 93 of the Finance Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (1) and substituting the following sub-regulations:

“(1) Subject to sub-regulation (1a),an officer of a Department who, on behalf of or for the purposes of the Commonwealth, incurs, authorizes or approves expenditure shall exercise due economy.

“(1a) An officer of a Department who, on behalf of or for the purposes of the Commonwealth, incurs, authorizes or approves expenditure shall, if the officer is required to comply with a direction given by the Minister of State administering that Department compliance with which would, in the particular case, prevent the officer from exercising due economy, exercise due economy to the extent possible in the circumstances.”.
