E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Council and Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows : - 1 This Act may be cited as "The Fertilisers Act Short title Amendment Act of 1916," and shall be read as one with an!t t' "The Fertilisers Act of 1914,"* herein referred to as the ~ ~ Ac~c IOQ Principal Act. 2. In the definition of "Fertiliser" in section two Amendmen$ of the Principal Act the words "or potash" are repealed, of 8. 2. and the words "potash, or lime" are inserted in lieu thereof; also, after the words "nutriment to plants," the words "also any excrement of animals or any natural substance or natural product which is used for fertilising the soil or supplying nutriment to plants: Provided that" are inserted; also, the words "crude nightwil, crude offal, or any crude refuse which has not been dried or otherwise treated so t4at decomposition will be arrested until such refuse is applied to the land" are repealed, and the words "or crude nightsoil" are inserted in lieu thereof. * 5 Geo. 7394 AGRICULTURE. Fertilisers Act Amendment Act. 7 GEO. V. No. 4, 1916. After the said definition, the following definition is inserted:- Lime. "Lime" for fertilising purposes must be classed as- (a) "Caustic lime. or purnt lime, or quicklime," containing the lime in the f rm of calcium oxide (CaO); or (b) "Mild lime or air-slaked lime," containing the lime ch iefly in the form of hydrate of lime (Ca(OH)2)' obtained by sI king of burnt lime; or (c) "Agricultural lime," containing lime in form of carbonate of lime (CaCO a) , obtained by crushing or pulverising of limestone, marble, coral, or shells; or (d) "Gypsum,"· containing the lime in the form of sulphate of lime (CaSO 4)' Amendment 3. In paragraph (c) of subsection one of section of 8. 7. seven of the Principal Act, after the word "potash," the words "or in the case of a fertiliser containing lime the proportion per centum in which the fertiliser contains lime" are inserted. After subsection three of the said section, the following subsection is inserted:- [3A.] In the case of agricultural lime the percentages of coarse material and fine material shall be stated on the label, together with the percentage of lime as CaO or CaCO a• Fine material is the portion which passes through a sieve of forty meshes to the linear inch, and coarse material is the portion retained in the mesh of the sieve. Amendment 4. In section nine of the Principal Act, before the of 8.9. words "shall be guilty" the following paragraph is inserted: - . As to lime amounts to seven per centum of the . , total lime certified to be present in fertilisers Amendment 5. (d) Gypsum lime sulphate (CaSO 4)' per centum. In the case of ashes or wood ashes- Potash, per centum. Phosphoric acid, per centum. Lime (CaO), per centum.
