AN ACT to refer certain Matters to the Federal Council of Australasia for the exercise of Legislative Authority thereon.

[Assented to, 13th January, 493.]

HEREAS by an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom preamble.

Council of Australasia," it is enacted that the Federal Council of Australasia thereby constituted shall have legislative authority in respect of such of the matters therein mentioned as may be referred to the Council by the Legislatures of any two or more Colonies : And whereas amongst the matters that may be so referred is included the

matter of General Defences, and any other matter of general Aus-

tralasian interest with respect to which the Legislatures of the several Colonies can legislate within their own limits, and as to which it is deemed desirable that there should be a law of general application : And whereas it is desirable that the matters hereinafter mentioned in this Act should be referred to the said Federal Council, to the intent that the said Council may exercise legislative authority with respect thereto : Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis-

lative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1.     IN pursuance of the provisions of the said recited Act the

Matters referred to following matters are hereby referred to the Federal Council of

Federal Council.

Australasia, to the intent that, so soon as the Legislature or Legisla- tures of another Colony or other Colonies shall have referred the same matters to the Council, the said Council may exercise legislative authority with respect to such matters, or any of them, and that the Acts of the Council relating to them respectively shall be in force in Western Australia, that is to say,

(a.) The discipline and government of the garrisons that have established and maintained at Thursday Island and King George's Sound, or any other place within the Australian Colonies, at the joint expense of those Colonies, or any of them.

(b.) The trial and punishment in one Colony of offenders

against the laws of another Colony.

Short title.

THIS Act may be cited as " The Federal Council Referring

Act ( Western Australia), 1893."
