FARRER MEMORIAL RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

FUND (AMENDMENT) ACT.

An Act to enlarge the objects to which the Farrer Memorial Research Scholarship Fund may be applied; for this and other purposes to amend the Farrer Memorial Research Scholarship Fund Act, 1930; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 22nd October, 1974.]

D E it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by ~ . and with the advice, and .consent of the. Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: —

1 . This Act may be cited as the "Farrer Memorial

Research Scholarship Fund (Amendment) Act, 1974".

2 . The Farrer Memorial Research Scholarship Fund Act,

1930, is amended—

(a)

by omitting from section 3 the words "Under- Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Director of Agriculture" and by inserting instead the words "Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, Senior Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agriculture";

(b )
( i ) by omitting from section 6 the word "Trustees"
where firstly occurring and by inserting instead
the word "trustees";

(ii)   by omitting from section 6 the words ", and the interest arising from the investment shall be expended in enabling graduates of the University of Sydney or of any other Univer­ sity or any other person selected by the

Trustees

Trustees to carry out such study or research in agricultural problems and in such manner as the trustees may deem, expedient";

(iii)   by inserting at the end of section 6 the following subsection :—

(2) The interest arising from the investment of the fund shall be expended, in such amounts as from time to time are determined by the trustees—

(a) in enabling any person selected by the trustees to carry out study or research in agricultural problems; and
(b) at the discretion of the trustees, in paying—

(i)   the whole or part of the costs and expenses of the delivery of an annual Farrer Memorial Oration and the annual presentation of a medal, known as the Farrer Memorial Medal; and

(ii)   an honorarium to the recipient of the Farrer Memorial Medal.

(c)

by inserting in section 7 after the words "objects of the fund" the words "referred to in section 6 (2 )

( a ) " ;

(d)

by omitting section 10 (2) and by inserting instead the following subsections :—

(2) A by-law shall be submitted for the

approval of the Governor.

(3 )

( 3 ) Section 41 of the Interpretation Act, 1897. applies in respect of a by-law approved by the Governor as if this Act had been passed after the commencement of the Interpretation (Amendment) Act, 1969.
