FARM COLONY TYPE MENTAL HOSPITAL

CONSTRUCTION ACT.

Act No. 36, 1949.

An Act to sanction and provide for the construc- tion of a Mental Hospital of the Farm Colony Type; to amend the Local Govern- ment Act, 1919, as amended by subsequent Acts, and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 12th November, 1949.]

BE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South

Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—

1 . This Act may be cited as the " F a r m Colony Type Mental Hospital Construction Act, 1949."

2 . (1) (a) The ca r ry ing out of the work described in the Schedule to this Act is hereby sanctioned.

(b) The said work shall be deemed to be an author ised work within the meaning of the Public W o r k s Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts .

(c) The Minis ter for Public W o r k s is em­ powered to ca r ry out the said work and shall be the const ruct ing au thor i ty for the same within the meaning of the said Act, as so amended, and shall enter into such contracts and take all such necessary steps for the p rope r execution thereof as such au thor i ty may think proper .

(d) The provis ions of the Public W o r k s Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts , sections th i r ty- four, thirty-five, th i r ty-s ix and thir ty-seven excepted, shall apply to and in respect of the said work.

(2) Wi thou t prejudice to the genera l i ty of subsec­ t ion one of this section the provisions of section th i r ty - eight of the Public W o r k s Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts , shall apply to and in respect of any contracts re fe r red to in p a r a g r a p h (c) of subsection one of this section.

3 . The cost of ca r ry ing out the said work (exclusive of land resumpt ions) is es t imated a t two million pounds , and such es t imated cost shall not , under any circum­ stances, be exceeded by more t han ten pe r centum.

4 . The provis ions of this Act shall have effect and any land acquired for the purposes of the said work may be used for or in connection wi th the construct ion and conduct of a menta l hospi ta l of the f a r m colony type

notwi ths tanding any th ing contained in P a r t X I I A of the

Local Government Act, 1919, as amended by subsequent
Acts .

SCHEDULE.

SCHEDULE.

The construction and equipment of a Mental Hospital of the Farm Colony Type, comprising:—

(1) Approximately thirty Ward Blocks designed to house two thousand patients in all with accommodation ranging from thirty to one hundred patients per block;

(2) Administrative Buildings;

(3) Hospital Block, including Operating Theatres;

(4) Kitchen, Laundry and Stores Blocks;

(5) Amusement Hall ;

(6) Residences for Medical Staff and Senior Staff Officers;

(7) Quarters for Nurses and Attendants;

(8) Farm Buildings;

(9) Boiler Station;

(10) Other ancillary buildings as deemed necessary or desirable

by the Constructing Authority.

The whole of the work hereinbefore described to be subject to such modifications as may be deemed necessary or desirable by the Constructing Authority.
