An Act to amend the Law of False Pretences.

WH E R E A S Pre tences Be it therefore enacted by the Queen ' s Mos t

i t is expedient to amend t h e Law re l a t ing to False

Exce l l en t Majesty by and w i t h t h e advice and consent of t h e Legis­
la t ive Counci l and Legis la t ive Assembly of N e w South W a l e s in
Pa r l i amen t assembled and b y t h e au thor i ty of t h e same as follows :—

1. I f any person shall by any false pre tence obta in t h e s igna ture of any o ther person t o any bi l l of exchange promissory note or any valuable securi ty wi th in t en t to chea t or defraud every such offender shal l be gui l ty of a misdemeanor a n d be ing convicted thereof shall be l iable a t t h e discret ion of t h e Cour t to be sentenced to h a r d labor on t h e roads or o ther publ ic works of t he Colony for t he t e r m of four years or to suffer such o the r p u n i s h m e n t by fine or impr i sonment or by bo th as t he Cour t shall award.
