Extradition (Hijacking of Aircraft) Regulations

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council and pursuant to section 4 of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901, hereby make the following Regulations under the Extradition Act 1988.

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Extradition (Hijacking of Aircraft) Regulations.

Interpretation

2. In these Regulations, unless the contrary intention appears:

“the Act” means the Extradition Act 1988;

“the Convention” means the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Seizure of Aircraft, being the convention referred to in the Crimes (Hijacking of Aircraft) Act 1972.

Declaration as to extradition countries

3. Each of the countries specified in the Schedule is declared to be an extradition country.

 

Application of Act

4. Notwithstanding any limitations, conditions, exceptions or qualifications to which the application of the Act in relation to each extradition country specified in the Schedule is subject in accordance with provision made under paragraph 11 (1) (b) of the Act, the Act applies in relation to each of those extradition countries subject to the Convention.
