Extradition (Aviation) Regulations

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Extradition Act 1988.

Citation

1.

These Regulations may be cited as the Extradition (Aviation) Regulations.

Commencement

2.

These Regulations commence on the date of commencement of the Crimes (Aviation) Act 1991.

Interpretation

3.

In these Regulations:

“Hague Convention” has the same meaning as in the Crimes (Aviation) Act 1991;

“Montreal Convention” has the same meaning as in the Crimes (Aviation) Act 1991;

“the Act” means the Extradition Act 1988.

Extradition countries and application of Act

4.

(1) Each of the countries specified in Schedule 1 or 2 is declared to be an extradition country.

(2) The Act applies to each of the countries specified in Schedule 1 subject to the Hague Convention.

(3) The Act applies to each of the countries specified in Schedule 2 subject to the Montreal Convention.

Repeal (Extradition (Hijacking of Aircraft) Regulations and Extradition (Protection of Aircraft) Regulations)

5.

Statutory Rules 1988 Nos. 282 and 286 are repealed.
