REGULATION UNDER THE CUSTOMS ACT 1901 AND THE COMMERCE
(TRADE DESCRIPTIONS) ACT 1905

AMENDMENTS OF THE EXPORTS (DAIRY PRODUCE) REGULATIONS
The Second Schedule to the Exports (Dairy Produce) Regulations is amended —
(a) by omitting from paragraph 1 in the second column of item 5 “Cheese” and substituting “Except as otherwise specified in a succeeding paragraph of this item, cheese”;
(b) by adding at the end of paragraph 8 in the second column of that item “It may contain not more than 0.3 parts per centum of sorbic acid.”;
(c) by adding at the end of paragraph 9 in the second column of that item “It may contain not more than 0.3 parts per centum of sorbic acid.”;
(d) by omitting from paragraph 12 in the second column of that item “It may contain not more than 2 grains of sulphur dioxide for each pound of cheese.” and substituting “It may contain —
(a) not more than 0.03 parts per centum of sulphur dioxide;
(b) not more than 0.2 parts per centum of sorbic acid; or
(c) both sulphur dioxide and sorbic acid where the amounts of sulphur dioxide and sorbic acid in the cheese are such that the sum of the fractions obtained by dividing the number of parts per centum of sulphur dioxide present in the cheese by 0.03 and the number of parts per centum of sorbic acid present in the cheese by 0.2 does not exceed 1.”;
(e) by adding at the end of paragraph 15 in the second column of that item “Australian Processed Cheddar Cheese in sliced form may contain not more than 0.2 parts per centum of sorbic acid.”;
(f) by adding at the end of paragraph 16 in the second column of that item “It may contain not more than 0.3 parts per centum of sorbic acid.”;
(g) by adding at the end of paragraph 20 in the second column of that item “Australian Processed Gruyere Cheese in sliced form may contain not more than 0.2 parts per centum of sorbic acid.”; and
(h) by adding at the end of the third column of that item the following paragraph:
“7. Where cheese contains sorbic acid or sulphur dioxide, the trade description of the cheese shall include the words ‘preservative added’ in prominent and legible characters.”.
