REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903–1918.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence Act 1903–1918, to come into operation forthwith.

Amendment of Regulations for the Entrance Examination to the Royal Military College of Australia, 1916.

Regulations for the Entrance Examination to the Royal Military College of Australia, 1916, are amended as follows:—

(1) Paragraph 14 (i) 4th Day—After “German” insert “or Japanese.”

(2) Section 6 (Modern Languages) of Part II. is deleted and the following inserted in lieu thereof:—

“6. Modern Languages—French, German, or Japanese

One language (i.e., French or German or Japanese) is obligatory

(b) Questions on Elementary Grammar.

(c) Simple translations into French or German.

(d) Simple Free Composition.

N.B.—Accuracy, rather than breadth of knowledge, will be required.

Japanese.

Conversational Japanese and Grammar.

Rose-Innes’ Conversational Japanese for Beginners, Parts I., II., III., and final 20 pages of Part IV., is recommended as a Text-Book.”
