AN ORDINANCE

To amend the Enquiry Ordinance 1938.

BE it ordained by the Administrator of the Government of the Executive Council, in pursuance of the powers conferred by the Commonwealth of Australia, with the advice of the Federal Seat of Government Acceptance Act 1909 and the Seat of Govern-
ment {Administration) Act 1910-1933, as follows:—

1.— (1.) This Ordinance may be cited as the Enquiry short title

(2.) The Enquiry Ordinance 1938, as amended by this Ordinance, may be cited as the Enquiry Ordinances 1938.

2. After section five of the Enquiry Ordinance 1938, the following sections are inserted:—

" 5 B . — (1.) A member of a Board or a person appointed to

enquire into any matter in pursuance of this Ordinance, or any bouk"' l<rc"
officer authorized in that behalf by the Chairman of a Board or
by an appointed person, shall at all times have full and free access
to all buildings, places, goods, books, documents and other papers
for the purposes of the enquiry, and for that purpose may make
extracts from or copies of any such books, documents or papers.

" (2.) Any person who obstructs or hinders any member of the Board or appointed person or any officer authorized in that behalf by the Chairman of a Board or an appointed person in the exercise of the powers conferred by this section shall be guilty of an offence.

Penalty: Fifty pounds.

"(3.) Any officer who communicates any information acquired

by him in the performance of any duty under this section to any

person other than a member of the Board or the appointed person, or a person to whom he is authorized by the Board or the appointed person to communicate it, shall be guilty of an offence.

Penalty: Fifty pounds.".
