Electricity Safety Act 1998

Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) (Amendment) Regulations 2007

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999 to—

(a)amend the requirements for testing the energy consumption of dishwashers and clothes washing machines; and

(b)make miscellaneous and consequential amendments.

2Authorising provisions

These Regulations are made under sections 154 and 157 of the Electricity Safety Act 1998.

3Commencement

These Regulations come into operation on 1 April 2007.

4Principal Regulations

In these Regulations the Electricity Safety (Equipment Efficiency) Regulations 1999[1] are called the Principal Regulations.

5Insertion of regulation 24A

After regulation 24 of the Principal Regulations insert

"24A   Transitional—clothes washing machines and dishwashers in stock before 1 April 2007

A clothes washing machine or dishwasher that—

(a)was manufactured in or imported into Australia before 1 April 2007; and

(b)is registered and labelled in accordance with regulation 16(1) as in force immediately before 1 April 2007; and

(c)complies with the performance criteria set out in regulation 6(1) as in force immediately before 1 April 2007—

is deemed to be registered and labelled in accordance with these Regulations and to comply with these Regulations if it continues to be so labelled and so compliant.".

6Amendment of Schedule 3 to update references

(1)In item 1 of Schedule 3 to the Principal Regulations—

(a)for "Part 1: Energy consumption and performance', AS/NZS 2040.1:1998; and" substitute "Part 1: Methods for measuring performance, energy and water consumption', AS/NZS 2040.1:2005; and";

(b)for "Part 2: Energy labelling requirements', AS/NZS 2040.2:2000." substitute "Part 2: Energy efficiency labelling requirements', AS/NZS 2040.2:2005.".

(2)In item 2 of Schedule 3 to the Principal Regulations—

(a)for "Part 1: Energy consumption and performance', AS/NZS 2007.1:2003; and" substitute "Part 1: Methods for measuring performance, energy and water consumption', AS/NZS 2007.1:2005; and";

(b)for "Part 2: Energy labelling requirements', AS/NZS 2007.2:2003." substitute "Part 2: Energy efficiency labelling requirements', AS/NZS 2007.2:2005.".
