Electricity Safety (Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations 2005
The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1.Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to amend the Electricity Safety (Equipment) Regulations 1999 to prescribe further minimum standards of safety for electrical equipment.
2.Authorising provisions
These Regulations are made under sections 153 and 157 of the Electricity Safety Act 1998.
3.Commencement
These Regulations come into operation 1 August 2005.
4.Principal Regulations
In these Regulations the Electricity Safety (Equipment) Regulations 1999[1] are called the Principal Regulations.
5.Amendment to minimum safety standards
In regulation 6(b) of the Principal Regulations, for "4.2 and 4.3" substitute "4.2, 4.3 and 4.5".
6.Insertion of regulations 23 and 24
After regulation 22 of the Principal Regulations insert—
"23.Transitional—Electricity Safety (Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations 2005
These Regulations as amended by the Electricity Safety (Equipment) (Amendment) Regulations 2005 do not apply to or in respect of electrical equipment that was manufactured in, or imported into, Australia before 1 August 2005, and these Regulations apply to such equipment as if the 2005 Regulations had not been made.
24.Expiry of regulation 23
Regulation 23 expires on 3 April 2006.".

In the following table—
"AS/NZS 3820:1998" means Australian/New Zealand Standard, "Essential safety requirements for low voltage electrical equipment, AS/NZS 3820:1998", published jointly by Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand on 5 October 1998, as amended from time to time.
