2 Electricity (Prescribed Electrical Articles) Amendment (No. 1) No. 47, 1993 ˙ Short title 1. This order in council may be cited as the Electricity (Prescribed Electrical Articles) Amendment Order (No. 1) 1993 . ˙ Amended order 2. The order in council published in the Gazette on 18 August 1990 at pages 2345 to 2369 is amended as set out in this order. ˙ Amendment of first paragraph 3. First paragraph— omit all words from and including in pursuance of to and including hereby determines that— ’, insert— under the Electricity Act 1976 , makes the following order in council— ‘Short title ‘1. This order in council may be cited as the Electricity (Prescribed Electrical Articles) Order 1990 . ‘Prescribed electrical articles ‘2. It is determined that— ’. ˙ Amendment of s.2 (Prescribed electrical articles) 4.(1) Section 2(a) (after unless )— insert— the article conforms with the relevant Australian Standard specified in Schedule A and ’. (2) Section 2(b) (after unless )— insert—

Schedule A (item “FLUORESCENT LAMP BALLASTS”)— omit, insert— B ( A 1) L“FLLAUSOT”R—ESmCeaEnNsT aLAdMevPice (1) “FLUORESCENT LAMP that— BALLAST” means a device that— (a) is intended for use in a (a) is designed to control the luminaire or portable magnitude of current flowing lighting fitting; and through the discharge path of a fluorescent lamp; and (b) is designed to control the magnitude of current (b) is of the— flowing through the discharge path or electrodes of a hot cathode fluorescent lamp or lamps or a cold start fluorescent lamp or lamps of the single pin cap type; and (c) includes any capacitor incorporated in or supplied as part of the ballast; but does not include— (i) independent or built-in type intended for use with a luminaire or lighting fitting—portable type; or (ii) integral type such that it forms a nonreplaceable part of a fluorescent lamp/ballast combination; or a(idiai)ptor type so that it allows the insertion of a fluorescent lamp into the ballast assembly by the user; (d) a ballast that is specially and includes— intended for use in a luminaire certified for (c) any capacitor incorporated in compliance with the or supplied as part of the requirements for ballast; electrical equipment but does not include— with increased safety type of protection “Ex-e” (d) a ballast that is specifically for use in hazardous intended for use in luminaires locations; or certified for compliance with the requirements for electrical (e) a ballast incorporated in equipment with increased e l e c t r o -m e d i c a l s a fe t y t y pe o f
4 Electricity (Prescribed Electrical Articles) Amendment (No. 1) No. 47, 1993 equipment as defined in AS3200; or (f) a ballast incorporated in an ultraviolet steriliser; or (g) a ballast incorporated in equipment sealed in such a manner that replacement by the user is not intended. (2) The relevant Australian Standard for fluorescent lamp ballast is 3168. 1 March 1993 ’. p r o t e c t i o n “ E x - e ”orsen fui hazardous locations. (2) The relevant Australian Standard for fluorescent lamp ballast is 3134 or 3168. ˙ Amendment of Schedule B (New definitions) 6. Schedule B (after item “PORTABLE MASSAGE APPLIANCE”)— insert— (1) “SWIMMING POOL EQUIPMENT” means electrical 1 March 1993 equipment that— (a) is intended for household or similar use; and (b) is designed to operate at low voltage; and includes, in particular— (c) a spa bath; and (d) a spa pump or swimming pool pump; and (e) a spa heater or swimming pool heater; and (f) a spa blower or swimming pool blower; and (g) a swimming pool chlorinator; and (h) a swimming pool automatic chemical injection device; and (i) a spa bath, spa or swimming pool control device; and similar devices, but does not include— (j) a spa luminaire or swimming pool luminaire; or
5 Electricity (Prescribed Electrical Articles) Amendment (No. 1) No. 47, 1993 (k) equipment designed or intended for use with a fountain or aquarium. (2) The relevant Australian Standard for swimming pool equipment is 3136. (1) “THERAPEUTIC LAMP” means an appliance that— (a) is intended for household or similar use; and (b) is designed for connection by means of a flexible cord; and (c) is intended to produce ultraviolet or infra-red radiation for personal, therapeutic or cosmetic purposes.
